Vector data coming from GIS
Brest Métropole Océane
Brest Métropole Océane : aerial orthophoto about 450 km2 (11,25 gigapixels - 125000 x 90000 pixels)
Ortholittorale 2000
Ortholittorale 2000 is another example demonstrating that Geogarage is able to manage a colossal volume of imagery.
Actually, about 28500 tiles (each with a size of 1 km2, a resolution of 2000 x 2000 pixels, 50 cm GSD) have been downloaded from siglittoral website.
These coastal low tide orthophotographies (different from those of Geoportail website) covering all the Atlantic and Channel French littoral area represent 31,34 Gb of MrSid compressed image data (322 Gb in geoTiff fromat). They have all been mosaiced using the Quadtrimageo process developed by MIS, generating 3 millions of PNG/JPEG small georeferenced raster tiles hosted by the Geogarage.
Cassini
Map of France, Levée par ordre du Roy 1750, de César-François Cassini (1714-1784) composite picture (1,175 m x 1,156 m) based on a set of 182 maps (scale 1/86400) originally printed by Le Roy, le Jeune, source from David Rumsey's digital collection.
Pub reference: Konvitz, J., Cartography in France 1660-1848, p. 21-31; Pelletier, M. Les cartes de Cassini.
NOAA
About 1018 NOAA raster nautical charts (RNC/BSB/KAP format) can be viewed online with advanced quilting process (mosaic image with removed borders -map collars- for a seamless rendering display of multiple charts) The user can access through Internet online viewers to all the range of NOAA raster maps, zooming in and out, panning in a continuous way for selecting the specified map scale automatically (so the appropriate map), by simply sliding the mouse roll :
- with Magic Flash viewer, allowing the rotation of the maps (useful to read some oblique charts)
- in full screen with Google Maps, with full transparency management via layer opacity sliders (for terrestrial maps and orthophoto overlay) and Google local search (marinas, harbour services...)
Bassin d'Arcachon
A non-geographic example : an image mosaïc of the bassin d'Arcachon, photos taken and stiched by Stéphane Scotto. Image dimensions : 250000x2500 pixels.
High resolution photos
Artistical creation based on M. Jean-François Rauzier's composite panorama pictures (hyperphoto).
Paris (image size : 1.6 gigapixel, 95000 x 17346 pixels)

While viewing kml models in Google Earth, use IGN aerial photos ![]()
Example from an experimental project lead with the geomatic service of the city of Nantes Métropole which presents Basse Goulaine (Nantes suburb) with some orthophoto extracted from the IGN BDOrtho 2001 database (3,2 gigapixels - 70508 x 45720 pixels) and some cadastral raster map coming from their internal MapInfo GIS
A click on any map object allows to display additional informations related to the selected plot or building in a speech balloon
Moreover, a kml/kmz network link lets visualizing these elements in Google Earth 3D application
